Today is the perfect time to start making choices when shopping that will have a positive impact on our planet. Consider the following:
1) Buy in Bulk. Size does matter. When you buy the largest quantity of a product you can use, you help reduce the waste in packaging.
2) Buy Recycled Products. If there were no market for recycled products, there would be no incentive to recycle. Buying products made from recycled materials closes the loop.
3) Avoid Single-Used Products. Buy products that last. Use cloth towels and napkins instead of the paper variety; if you must use paper, make sure it is made from 100% recycled material.
4) Use Rechargable Batteries. Rechargable batteries last longer, cost less to use and help keep toxins out of the eco system.
5) Buy Used or Re-furbished Products. Used books save trees and re-furbished electronics save you money. Minimize waste by maximizing use!
6) Buy Low-Flow Showerheads. Using aerators and installing low-flow showerheads can cut your family's water bills by 50% while helping to conserve our water supply.
7) Buy Energy-Efficient Appliances. Always look for the Energy Star label. It ensures that the product has met energy efficiency standards set by the EPA and Dept. of Energy.
8) Buy Compact Flourescent Bulbs. These bulbs last 10 times longer then the incandescent variety. Replacing three incandescent bulbs with CFL saces $60 and 300 pounds of CO2 a year!
