The Franklin Transit Authority began service in may 2003 with four new biodiesel burning trolleys. The Franklin Trolley was the first new transit system in the State of Tennessee since 1986 and the first in Williamson County since the mid-1980's.
The vintage-styled trolleys hearken back to the original vehicles used for the Franklin Interurban service. The electric-powered rail service ran from Franklin to Nashville from 1909 to 1941. In 1942 a conversion to gasoline-powered busses was made and the operation ceased operations in 1969.
The Franklin Transit Authority is managed by The TMA Group for the City of Franklin. The TMA Group is a public-private partnership committed to providing environmentally friendly, affordable, reliable, and safe mobility options for Middle Tenneseans. |
Each one of the Franklin trolleys is equipped with a hydraulic lift for wheelchair passengers. Transit drivers are trained in operating the lift. Each vehicle can accommodate two wheelchairs at a time. Ask your transit driver if you need assistance entering or exiting the trolley.

In addition to the Franklin Transit Authority's on-site training, we
